A message from Coach Anfossi

Ally and Gentlemen,

I hope that your school year is off to a great start. Hopefully, we will be able to stay in school and get a wrestling season in. I just wanted to give you the latest in regards to what Section 8 is saying in regards to wrestling and other sports.

  1. All H.S. sports are suspended until January 4, 2021.

  2. The plan is for wrestling and winter sports to begin on January 4 and run until February 26. Fall sports would run March and April followed by spring sports in May and June.

  3. Last week, the Section 8 AD's voted that Nassau County would not compete in any N.Y.S. Championships this year. The vote was 46-7 against competing. Mr. Epstein voted in favor of having a New York State Championship. The season would end with either the Nassau County Championships or the Long Island Championships. The Section 8 Director is fighting this. Hopefully, it will be overturned.

4, I spoke to Mr. Epstein and we are not allowed to have pre-season wrestling workouts as in the past. The only thing that we can do through the school is the athletic strength and conditioning that started on Tuesday. The wrestling coaches part would be after the fall coaches finish theirs. Please push the kids to do this. As a coach, we will be paid part of our coaching salary for running this. (25% of our coaching salary)

  1. Wrestling wise, if the kids are interested they have to pursue wrestling clubs to get hard drilling and live in. We are not allowed to use the wrestling room until further notice.

  2. The weight classes were officially changed. There is now 13 weight classes. The only real changes are down low and up top. The middle weight classes basically stayed the same. The revised weight classes now include: 102, 110, 118, 126, 132, 138, 145, 152, 160, 172, 189, 215, and 285. They are not sure if there will be a 2 lb. allowance this year due to length of season. Hopefully they do.

  3. Weight certifications will be done automatically this year on a scale that will determining lowest weight for the athlete. No more pinches. Mr. Epstein has agreed for us to purchase one of these scales. This way we will know where our kids stand in regards to their weights. It costs $1600.00......thanks Mr. Epstein.

  4. There will be a Nassau County Wrestling Coaches Association meeting via Zoom this week where we will be given more updates. I will keep you updated.

  5. I would like to have our fall coaches meeting soon where we can discuss our programs plan to deal with these unprecedented times. I'll look at calendar and get a date.

Looking forward to a great year for the kids and the program. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Sincerely, Ray

A Message from Coach Rodriguez

Dear familia,

I’d like to address the current situation and relieve you of some rumors that have been floating around town and social media. The Gladiator Wrestling club won't be using the teen center until further notice due to a recent rise in cases in our local schools and recreation center. We made this decision in order to help stop any possible spread and to keep our kids safe. We have been following all protocols up until now and will continue to follow all protocols when we resume practices. We have not gotten any confirmed cases in our club, Savage or Athlete Protocol which are the organizations using the facility.

We will continue to workout in small groups outdoors for the rest of the month and hopefully we can get back on the mats by next week. Practices will be at the recreation turf field Monday, Wednesday and Friday of this week. The A-Team will practice from 4:30pm-5:30pm and the Elite Team from 5:30pm-6:30pm. Please dress warm, wear a mask and bring a water bottle. Of course the practices are weather permitted. We will send a reminder if practices are canceled.

We will be social distancing at ALL workouts!!

Here is the Gladiator wrestling schedule for the rest of the month:

Monday 10/26: Run 7am at Laurelton Beach (boardwalk) weather permitting A-Team wrestlers 4:30pm-5:30pm. All wrestlers must be regsiterd. Elite wrestlers 5:30pm-6:30pm. All wrestlers must be registered.

Wednesday 10/28 Run 7am at Laurelton Beach (boardwalk) A-Team wrestlers 4:30pm-5:30pm. All wrestlers must be registered. Elite wrestlers 5:30pm-6:30pm. All wrestlers must be registered.
